Dear Alumni, Family and Friends of CU Wrestling:
Only five years ago Campbellsville University decided to start a wrestling program. Now, a "lightning quick" five years later and the program has accomplished national finishes of 21st,14th, 7th, 14th and 7th place again this year. After graduating seven seniors last year, many young wrestlers were being counted on this year and they did not let us down.
Not only did they keep us moving forward in the National polls and crown five more All-Americans, but they also managed a 3rd place finish in the NWCA-NAIA All Academic Team Standings. Campbellsville wrestling has never finished lower than 4th in the All Academic Team standings.
It is now time to reflect and congratulate these athletes for another great season of Tiger Wrestling.
The 2008-2009 team finished the regular season with a 10-8 dual meet record with wins over nationally ranked Ashland and Notre Dame. Wrestling a very tough schedule this team also suffered through losses to Purdue, Kent State and Northern Illinois. The Tigers ended the regular season with a tournament title at the EdSouth Invitational by finishing ahead of Newberry, Limestone, King, Cumberlands, Carson Newman and others.
Along the way to another impressive season, the Tigers qualified twelve wrestlers to the NAIA National Championship tournament in Oklahoma City.
Johnny Papesh (125) Tommy Pretty (133) Tyler Voth (133) Zach Flake (141 Matt David (141) Ruben Perez (149) James Linker (165) Bryan Wells (165) Phillip Oudhuis (174) Spencer Adams (184) Glen Jackson (197) and David Coffey (285) represented CU Wrestling with a lot of pride and determination in OKC. In all, the team left OKC with 5 All-Americans and Senior Zach Flake making it to the National Finals match for the second time in his career at CU.
