December 5th-2007
The Tigers took a rare trip out west for a pair of duels with Menlo
College and Oklahoma City University this past weekend. In the
first match with # 3 ranked Oklahoma City, Marc Macias was able
to get a major decision at 141 and True Freshman George Sheppard
was able to knock off Brandon Benson, the # 3 ranked wrestler at
157 pounds. George is undefeated against NAIA wrestlers and his
only loss was a 10-7 set back to NCAA I ranked Seth Garvin of UTC.
Freshman standout Johnny Sinchok almost knocked off # 2 ranked
John Wilcox of OKC, but suffered a late takedown to lose the match
5-4. Chad Brown had his match in hand against # 8 ranked Jeremy
Johnson of OKC, until a late 5 point headlock got johnson back
in the match and helped score the win. Overall, the team wrestled
very sluggish and will need to improve with a very tough schedule
still remaining to finish out the first half of the season.
Against Menlo, Seth Van Horn, George Sheppard, Johnny Sinchok
and Josh Deadrick all scored wins for the Tigers, but that was
not enough as CU lost the duel by a score of 19-11.
