WRESTLING TEAM FINISHES FOURTH AT NAIA EASTERN NATIONAL QUALIFIER TOURNAMENT. PAPESH AND FLAKE WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!

(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Feb. 21)-- The No. 12 Campbellsville University wrestling team finished in fourth place at the 2009 NAIA East Regional Qualifying tournament Saturday in St. Charles, Mo.  The Tigers placed 8 of 12 wrestlers at the tournament and finished with 106 team points.

No. 3 seed Johnny Papesh reached the 125 pound championship by beating former Kentucky State Champion Elliot Martin of Lindenwood in the first round. He then beat # 6 ranked Tyler Savage of Notre Dame College. He won the 125 pound championship with a 3-1 decision win over Dante Rini of Notre Dame.


Zach Flake,
141 lbs. Sr.
No. 2 seed Zach Flake won a first round match over Nick Stella of King and then his second round match by fall over WV-Tech. Flake then faced Alp Ozilik from Lindenwood in the semi finals and cruised to a 10-3 win to reach the finals.  He won the 141 pound championship with a dominating performance in the finals over #4 ranked Mikey Davis of Cumberland TN.
