Campbellsville finishes 3rd in East Region.............
The two 157 pound wrestlers from Campbellsville led the charge for the Tigers at the East Region. David Clemens and George Sheppard both made the Regional Finals and wrestled against each other. Clemens took the match and claimed his 2nd East Region Title. Sheppard, only a freshman, finished as the runner up and also had a win over National Champion Victor Crenshaw in the semi finals. This weight class turned out the be the toughest weight class in the Nation this year.
Other CU placers included 4th place finishers, Kaci Payne,
Josh Mason, Glen Jackson, Chris Branam and Kyle Norred. Senior
Kyle Norred suffered an unfortunate loss to National Champion
Kyle Jahn from Mckendree in the semifinals. After scoring what
seemed to be the winning takedown with 10 seconds left in the
match, the ref took the match to overtime with an unexplainable
stalling call on Norred with 6 seconds remaining. Norred was
unaware of the stall call and thought a stalemate had been called,
so he let Jahn escape at the buzzer. Jahn won the match in overtime
and claimed a top seed at the National Tournament. Bryan Wells
had a solid regional tournament and finished in 3rd at 165 after
wins over nationally ranked opponents.
Besided Clemens, the other Regional Champion
for the Tigers was freshman Johnny Sinchok. Johnny wrestled
a good tournament and was awarded the East Region Title when
National Champion Matt Cauley was Disqualified from the finals
match for throwing punches at Sinchok. |
