125 Pounds
Returning All American Johnny Papesh expects to compete for a National Title this year. 2nd semester he will be joined by Division I transfer Paul Sanford who is very talented and expects to compete for top honors as well. This weight class will also feature incoming freshman DeCoreus Leavell and returner Antonio Stewart. DEE is working hard and preparing for varsity competition this year.

133 pounds
Returning All American Tommy Pretty is preparing for a big year. He will be joined by returning wrestlers Cody Vinsant and Daphilo Succes. Incoming Freshman Tyler Alsip was a 2x Ohio State Placer. He has the work ethic and ability to do well.

141 pounds
National Qualifier Matt David will start the year at this weight and could be challenged by Former All American Jacob Murton and a talented freshman in Tyler Powers. Loads of talent here and we will be represented well at this weight.

149 pounds
Returning wrestlers with Varsity experience in Aaron Smith and Seth Lucas will start the year at this weight. Incoming Freshman Nick Waldrop is expected to challenge here also. Nick is a very talented wrestler that could surprise. Brandon Sellers is returning and looks to have grown into this weight.

157 pounds
Returning Varsity man Josh Ashbrook looks to have grown out of this weight class and is expected to move up. Freshman Conor Young, Dez Jakes and transfer Derek Alsip have worked very well in the pre season and look to contend here. Also, incoming freshman and 4x State Champion Harrison Courtney should be in the mix here and is talented enough to have an impact. A very young group competing here, but they are talented enough to compete this year and do well.

165 pounds
Senior All American James Linker returns here and will most likely be joined by returning varsity man Josh Ashbrook. Both are working very well and could have a big year. If Ashbrook makes the move to 174, then we could see Bryan Wells come back to 165 and take care of this spot with Linker.

174 pounds
2008-09 provided great experience for returning Sophomore Phillip Oudhuis. He will build on last year’s experience. Phil has also had a very productive summer and should have a great year. Phill could be joined at this weight by returning National Qualifier Bryan Wells. Wells had a great summer and has looked good in the pre season. If Wells ends up here or at 165, he will be a factor at either weight. Expect another big year from Wells.

184 pounds
Returning All American Spencer Adams plans to compete for a National Title this year. After a strong finish to his freshman campaign, he is capable of a big year. Incoming Freshman Scott Wern and Allen Scruggs could challenge here or up at 197 depending on certification.

197 pounds
Returner Diante Wright could compete here. He will be joined by Incoming Freshman Chris Rowland. This weight class lacks experience, but has the potential to develop into a strength for the team. Diante is very talented, but lacks experience. His improved work ethic gives him a solid chance to get the experience he needs. Chris Rowland is hard working and looks to have a bright future.

285 pounds
Returner David Coffey finished top 12 in Oklahoma City last year. A very good freshman campaign that we expect him to build on this year. He could be joined by 2 new heavyweights. Transfer Jeremiah Finnell and newcomer Chris Daniels. The heavyweight division looks to be wide open this year. We could have 2 big men going to OKC this year with a chance to get on the podium. All three are big, strong, athletic heavyweights.
A very strong group returns with talented newcomers and transfers joining them. Early on we could have a few holes in the dual meet lineup with some freshman wrestling varsity. However, the tournament strength of this team should be better than last year when we get to OKC. This team will be challenged by a difficult 1st semester schedule. After they fight through those challenges, expect a determined and confident team in Oklahoma City. Overall, Tiger Fans could see a more experienced team that should be much improved off of last year’s 7th place finish at the National Tournament.
